
The municipality of Faris was recently established as such under the provisions of the so-called Kapodistrian municipality of Laconia district, Peloponnese. It brings twelve villages together in one municipality. The villages are Xirokambi, which is the largest and the seat of the municipality, Anogia, Arna, Vassiliki, Goranoi, Kaminia, Lefkohoma, Paliopanagia, Polovitsa, Potamia, Spartia and Trapezonti.
The villages near Xirokambi are Koumousta, Anthohori, Kidonitsa and Agios Christoforos.
The villages near Anogia are Leuki, Sotira and Dipotama.
The villages near Lefkohoma are Kidonia and Kavouraki.
The village near Kaminia is Palaiohori.
The village near Polovitsa is Liantina.
The villages near Paliopanagia are Toriza and Poliana.
The districts of the municipality are spread out along the eastern slopes of Mount Taygetos up to the river Evrotas. The municipal districts of Xirokambi, Paliopanagia, Anogia, Kaminia, Lefkohoma, Potamia and Trapezonti are designated as semi-alpine villages and are built at the foot of Mount Taygetos on the western side of the river Evrotas valley.
The municipal districts of Arna, Spartia, Polovitsa, Vassiliki and Goranoi are alpine and built at altitudes of over 500m on Mount Taygetos.
The municipality covers an area of approximately 4575 acres reaching from the river Evrotas to the summit of Mount Taygetos.
